Elements Firetack Inc. is a 100% Indigenous-owned company based in Maskwacis, Treaty 6 Territory. Established in 2020, the company was built on a foundation of wildfire experience, strong leadership and a commitment to creating meaningful employment and development opportunities for Indigenous people.
What began with one secondary 8-person Firetack crew has grown into an organization operating five 8-person base crews and employing approximately 40 wildfire professionals seasonally.
As a Primary and Secondary Contractor for Alberta Wildfire, wildfire response remains at the core of who we are. Over the years, we have invested in our people, strengthened our safety systems and developed experienced Crew Leaders, Strike Team Leaders, Fallers and other skilled team members.
As we look toward 2027, Elements is building on that foundation by expanding into vegetation management, FireSmart and wildfire mitigation while developing partnerships with Indigenous Nations, communities, government and industry.
Our goal is responsible, sustainable growth—creating opportunities for our people, building Indigenous capacity and bringing the work ethic, leadership and safety culture developed on the fireline into every project we undertake.
Our Story...
Elements Firetack Inc. was incorporated on January 9, 2020, with a vision of building a professional Indigenous wildfire company that would create meaningful employment, develop our people and compete at a high standard within Alberta’s wildfire industry.
Less than three months later, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything.
Starting a new company during a global shutdown presented challenges we could never have anticipated. Social distancing requirements changed how crews worked and travelled, and something as simple as a sniffle or cough could suddenly raise questions about whether a team member could remain on the job or needed to be quarentined. Constantly changing Covid restrictions added another layer of uncertainty to an already demanding first season. Throughout the Covid years, Alberta Forestry worked with us to help navigate the evolving requirements and keep our crews operating safely.
From one secondary 8-person Firetack crew, we steadily built our workforce, leadership, equipment and operational capacity. What began during one of the most uncertain periods imaginable has grown into an organization operating five 8-person base crews and providing seasonal employment for approximately 40 wildfire professionals.
Along the way, our people grew with the company. Rookies developed into experienced firefighters. Team members strengthened their chainsaw skills through mentorship from experienced Fallers. Others took on increasing responsibility and progressed toward Crew Leader and Strike Team Leader roles.
In 2026, Elements reached another important milestone by successfully securing two Fort McMurray base-crew contracts through Alberta Wildfire’s competitive procurement process.
Today, the story of Elements is still being written.
As we look toward 2027, we are taking the experience, resilience and capacity built through wildfire operations and applying it to new opportunities in vegetation management, FireSmart, wildfire mitigation and Indigenous partnerships.
We started with one crew and a belief that we could build something lasting. Six years later, that belief remains at the heart of Elements Firetack.
